Tarba, Clear - calm #2 breeze in afternoon

Il- Hâfneh

Suffered agonies with a bad case of chill blains. After
we got below the snow line although it was still cold and
my horse a stallion was nearly crazy with the 18 mares in our
party and the road very rough with rocks over which the horses
we scrambling, I took off my shoes & stockings and rode bare
footed but my feet only seemed to get worse itching and
burning so that I was nearly frantic. As they were in the
stirrups & my horse wild I could not scrath? or rub them.

When I dismounted to take off my shoes & stockings our servant
Joseph held my horse. His horse & mine started to fight
each other & him, whereupon he displayed his nerve by holding
them both although they were rearing & trying to strike him
with their fore feet.

I felt as if I could ride a tiger or do any thing to get
my mind off my feet, and would gladly have given half my
future happiness for a little of that precious medicine which
I have at home.
