With reference to my Reports of the 10th Ulto of the conviction before the Magistrates at Leaven, for illegally removing from the sea shore certain Droits of Tallow - of William Danby John Shot Francis Smith John Smith and Robert Frankish

Also of James Parker Thomas Page and William Green Annexed is my crave for Travelling and subsistence on the 8th Ulto amounting to £2 " 2 . 8 - which I have been apportioned to the above prosecutions to each a moeity - as per statement of expenses - also annexed. I also annex this Bill of Costs of the Magistrates Clerk, accounting to £8 . 3 . 0 which I have likewise apportioned to each case. The expenses are therefore thus £ s. d. In the case of Danby and others 8 " 16. 5 1/2 Parker 12 " 8 " 9 ---------------------------- 21 " 5 " 2 1/2 -------------------------------- The expenses in the case of Parker and others were increased in consequence of Mr Catchpole - my Inspector of River, and Mr Davis Tide - Surveyor having to go to Great Cowden, a distance of 18 miles, - to search out Parker, Page and Green, - and 15

Barber that Five Boats containing ft 1567 9/12 Cubical Contents will afford sufficient and safe accomodation for 60 persons. The two 24 feet waist boats to be fitted as life boats. the 7th instant - I informed you that - Smith v Willisen had paid me the proceeds of sale they had received - Barker has also since paid me. JS. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sec Marine Deptt Bd Trade London. Sir, 2nd June 1858. With reference to my report of the 12th March last - acquainting you that a quantity of Droit Tallow picked up on the sea shore near Hornsea - by John Smith Leonard Barker and Mathew Willisen had been conveyed to Beverley and sold to Mr Fredk John Yates. -- That Tallow was traced by the within named Officers, - Mr Edward Catchpole my Inspector of the River -- and Mr C A Davis, one of my Tide Surveyors. Their great vigilence in this matter enabled me in the first instance to bring the subject under your notice - and would no doubt have enabled me to have obtained a conviction had I been allowed to institute proceedings. - I therefore beg to recommend them to your favorable consideration - when the subject of reward to Officers for tracing the same may come under your notice. In my Letter of to day's date - I have reported that the parties first named have now paid me the proceeds for which they sold the Tallow ---- viz ---- £. 13 " 6 . 0 JS. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
