The Secretary Marine Departt. 17th August 1857 Copy of Deposition of William Rivers Master of the Steam Vessel "Scandinavian" of London. which came into collision with the Prussian Barque "Carl Auguste" of Konigsberg from Taganrog and sank her. Form W2 2a Marginalia V . S

The Secretary Marine Department 17th August 1857 Board of Trade, London Sir Herewith you will receive a copy of the Affidavit of Mr Rivers, Master of the "Scandinavian" from Gothenburg - which Vessel came in collision with a Prussian Barque - and the last named Vessel sank. The Principal Officer Custom House, Selby 20th August 1857 Sir A boat 15 foot long marked "Accommodation" of Goole 'John Taylor - Master" without oars or bottom Boards has been washed on shore at Easington. I am informed that both the Owner and the Master reside at Selby. Will you have the goodness to inquire respecting these parties - informing them of the circumstance, - and appraize me of the result. Wilson Esqr Secretary Trinity House Hull 21st August 1857 Sir I have just been informed that the Prussian Vessel "Carl Auguste" - which sank on the morning of the 17th inst after having been in collision with the Steam Vessel "Scandinavian" was yesterday floating bottom upwards - a little within the Spurn Point, - and that two Smacks were hovering near her. - of which circumstance I will thank you to appraize the Elder Brethren of the Trinity House. Captain Randolph R.N. H.M. Ship, "Cornwallis" 22nd August 1857 Sir I beg to acquaint you that.- on the morning of the 17th instant, the Steam Vessel "Scandinavian" - from Gothenberg to this Port, when about midway between Spurn Point and Grimsby, came in collision with the Prussian Barque "Carl Auguste" from Taganrog with Linseed, also for this Port - when the last named Vessel sank. I am informed that on the 20th she floated - and has since been drifting about in the locality named. - of which I beg to appraize you should you deem it necessary with reference to Article 11 Page 9 of Instructions respecting Wrecks - to give any directions thereon to the Inspecting Commanders of the Coast Guard at Grimsby and Patrington. 82 Mr Hoad, Chf Off Coast Guard Sandlemere 22nd August 1857 On the 23 June last I sent you an amended form upon which to return Wreck Goods - with the 4th Column headed like the blank one annexed. Did you receive them? The one you sent me will do very well - if you will fill up the 4th Column as required by the new heading - Say also whether the Cask is full:- and if not full the portion that is filled. Lieut Poynton, Patrington Custom House Hull 1st Septr 1857 Sir, I beg to acquaint you that on the 18th Ulto Michl Tiddy reported to me - on a usual printed form that a Boat 15 feet long - had been washed on shore at Easington and secured by George Courtney - she had in her Accommodation of Goole John Taylor Master Courtney has valued her at £4.10.0. The owners agent has been with me and has stated that the value of Courtney is too high, he says £2.10 is her full worth - Will you have the goodness to look into the matter and let me know her Marginalia P
