by John Wallis, its estimated Value or rather their estimated Value- for I presume the chain is included is £9,, 10,, 0 and the cartage charged against them is 5/= The rent to which it is liable is at the rate of 2 1/2 per cent- per Ann- and so in proportion as I do not know the weight of the anchor and chain- I have sent to Mr Stephenson the papers he gave me- therefore in reference to him- he will be able to inform you of the full amount of Charges including salvage- As I have requested him to ascertain from Wallis the man who picked up the anchor and chain- the amount under that head J. received in the case of Mr Stone's application respecting the Boat in question. I was unable to do so in consequence of requiring information on the subject from Mr Shacklock --who was -- and still is sick-- As soon as I obtained the required information, I wrote to Mr Stone and sent him form 13 on the 30th Ultimo--which I expect he will fill up and return-- " Anchor Droit 148" This anchor was picked up and delivered to the late Mr Stephenson with 25 fathoms of chain. The finder's name is John Wallis it is entered in Mr Stephenson's Book on the 11th December 1854 which corresponds with the notice delivered to him by Wallis---I have however sent the paper to Mr Stephenson who used to assist his father---and requested him to see that the proper article is delivered---you however say nothing about chain which leads me to suppose the wrong one has been selected---if you will have the goodness to see Mr Stephenson on this subject no doubt the error can be rectified. adjust the matter for me. In his paper the anchor & chain in question are valued at £6 = In your claim you state the value £6.10.0 but you do not say the amount at which the Salvors value them. I am directed to have a general sale on the 8th June next - when all articles collected during the late Mr. Stephensons time, will be disposed of. Cannot your anchor wait that sale - as the expences of a Sale by Auction of a single article will [lad?] upon it a very heavy charge. J.S.
