Manorial rights of Sir G. Strickland

24 Novbr /55

Sir,

With reference to my letter of the 17 Inst on the
subject of the Claims of certain Gentlemen to Manorial Rights
over parts of the Coast between Flambro Head and Spurn Point,
wherein I stated I had again written to Sir G. Strickland for
further information respecting his claim and beg to annex a copy
of my letter and his reply thereto which does not contain any further
information than that communicated in his letter already before
you. I also annex the undermentioned documents on the same
subject which was lodged with Mr Stephenson the late Receiver
of Wrecks, and which have been handed to my by his son, viz

The claim of Sir Clifford Constable of Burton Constable is
precisely the same as the claim already forwarded.

The claim of Mr Richd Bethell of Rise as Lord of the Manor
of Hornsea but without the detail of Limits contained in his
claim. The nature of his right is however more particularly
set out viz the clauses "Any wreck of the Sea or of any Goods found
Jetsam, Flotsam, or Lagan. The claim of Mr Walter Strickland
of Cokethorp Park to "All wreck of the sea and to any Goods found
Jetsam, Flotsam and Lagan, Derelict, Boat or Vessel upon the
Coast or sea shore adjoining or abutting upon any and all
parts of the Township of Flamborough. The claims of
Mr Yarburgh Greame of Sewerby House "to all wrecks of the
Sea and to {all} any goods found Jetsam, Flotsam, Lagan or
Derelict, upon the Coast or Sea shore adjoining and abutting
upon any and all parts of the Township of Sewerby-cum-
Martin. As these claims cover every imaginable des-
cription of wreck that may be thrown by the sea upon the
Coast or dragged there by manual labour, I request to be
informed whether all such is to be delivered to them
provided there be to the same le good observing that the
only parties who have described the Titles upon which they
found their claims and who have named the limits
over which they claim rights are Sir Clifford Constable
& and Mr Bethell of Rise.
