Dear Sir,

Your despatch of yesterday saying, "I see no possible way for me to be in New York before monday night-" was not received until 8.10 this morning. Subsequently yours reading as follows came - "I cannot leave here to night. Do you wish to see me in New York Tuesday. Answer." To this we sent you immediately the following. "Your despatch received. We telegraphed Beaman early this morning to advise you direct if he could meet you here Tuesday. Await his determination".

We trust you may have received a message from Mr. Beaman saying he would meet you here on Tuesday morning, & that nothing will prevent you coming if you should have done so.

We have no despatch from Mr. Beaman to day, but a letter from him dated yesterday, says, he is under orders to go to England & Geneva, 20 Inst - this in confidence.
