Dearest mater mine,
Another bloomin week has gone and here I am again in
the lonely lab for our wee chat - Last Sunday should have seen Adena and
the kittens landing in Vancouver so they should be in Toronto by now and
may even have been a callin on you about 12 hours ago - seein as how
we are that much ahead of you in time out here. I wonder! and how I should
have loved to be among those present on that there occasion! Aweel I was
there in spirit and thats a whole heap o me...Theres no news except that
the past week has seen a heap of work done - real progress has been made
and for that Im thankful. The political situation is clear as mud but
the chances of roughouse here are getting poorer every day since the raid
on the Soviet Legation. That was certainly the biggest stride in the
right direction that has been made for some years. Then the suspension
of biz by the Bank of Taiwan and the Japanese moratorium and the change
of the Japanese cabinet fortell many things - better to say possibilities
perhaps - but its a good bet that the Japanese Chinese policy will
undergo a marked change of some kind and its on the cards there will
eventuate another Russo Japanese war in time. Russia has suffered a sad
loss of face in the East and it remains to be seen how well she is fixed
within for she cant go to war without some kind of a bank account -
otherwise it would just be a Japanese occupation of Siberia. Such speculatin
gets one no where but is interestin withall. I have cancelled my
lecture for the Things Chinese Society notwithstanding the notice in
the Bulletin which you will probably see. That evens my score for I gave
two last year for which I got no credit in the press seein as how I
was a last minute arrangement. I dont intend to talk any more about
Prehistory and Palaeogeography in public here till we have pulled off
