Dear Fran. I have been home since Friday night. We had a big route march last week through north Oxford. We marched about (70) seventy miles altogether taking three days. We started out last wednesday morning at eight o'clock and stayed that night at Drumbo.

the next night we stayed at Tavistock (a German settlement) and the next next day we walked back to Woodstock. The walk did not bother me much, excet the first day my feet were a little sore.

I got a pass from Friday night till Sunday night to come down and visit you people, but I have Mr. McKay's and Mr. Ralph's bills to pay today so I thought that I would not be able

It was officially anounced the other day that the 71st is to go next. I expect in about a month or six weeks. We may mobilize at Guelph or we may not. The board of examiners are making a medical inspection of the troops before they leave. They inspected Reg's company and turned down thirteen men.

The men at Woodstock have not been examined yet but I know that there will be nothing wrong with me. Edith Ellis brought me over the socks she made me. One fitted me fine but the other was about an inch too long. I was drying one of the pair you girls gave me the other night at Drumbo and it burnt it

in three or four places and I felt quite bad. I gess Harry and Jim would like to inlist but as I told Jim he was crazy if he enlisted as a private in the Oxford battalion or even as a Lieutenant as he could take a course in the summer and join some battalion later in which has a few old officers who have had a little experience, and there is no hurry yet for him
