No. 131 Reports:
Salt Lake, Utah, Thursday, December 2, 1915.
Today by appointment I met H. McDonald, and questioned
him regarding his actions and the part he played in the attempted
plot to dynamite the residence of Governor Wm. Spry on the
night of Nov. 18th, 1915.
In answer to my question McDonald stated that he drove
a Ford five passenger car on the night mentioned, containing
three men besides himself whom he named as follows: O'Leary,
Brennen and Reider; that at about 8:15 P.M. he arrived at
A St. and 2nd Ave. where Brennen got out of the machine. He
then drove to 2nd Ave. between C and D Sts., where Reider and
O'Leary got out. He then waited until Reider and O'Leary
had turned the corner of C St. and 2nd Ave. walking south,
when he drove to the corner of C and 2nd Ave. and stopped at
about 8:30 P.M.
McDonald did not know who was to drive the Buick
roadster which was to take "Dynamite Joe" Donovan past the
residence of Governor Spry and at which a bomb was to be thrown,
Donovan being the man picket to throw the bomb.
I then asked McDonald if he knew who made the bomb
and he informed me that Childs was supposed to have made it and
that a man by the name of Grey who is employed by the Hercules
Powder Co., furnished the material to Childs for the bomb.
McDonald further stated that a Dr. Jourgent was in
Salt Lake from Cincinnati, Ohio; that Jourgent was one of the
prominent leaders of the I.W.W. movement and was in company
with Mrs. Lemmon on the corner of 2nd South and State St.
Tuesday afternoon, November 30th.
McDonald informed me that De Vrees formerly employed
by Gerry was wanted in New York in connection with the Ray
Tauser case, and that De Vrees right name was Oliver Osborne.
I took down the names that McDonald gave me on a paper
and also wrote out a receipt for $21.50 which was in payment
for information furnished and discontinued his services.
