Governor Wm Spry, Salt Lake City Utah

Honored Sir: I earnestly request you to use your influence to secure a new trial for Joe Hill who was convicted of murder in the first degree.

I understand that none of the witnesses at the trial identified him and that he is being railroaded to his death.

I protest against this outrageous conviction, and ask that his case be given immediate attention.

Respectfully, Bertha Tietz

Dear Sir

Convinced that the trial of Joseph Hillstrom for the murder of J.S. Morrison was but a mockery of justice That if he was rich & powerful the verdict would be set aside. I appeal to you to exercise your Executive clemency toward this man. He has no money & no friends of influence.

Of course if this man is killed under force of law by the State of Utah

& you do nothing to interfere, it will solidify the workers & arouse them to their own defense, but I would not attain this end by the sacrifice of those in positions of power in Utah are now demanding.

Honorable William Spry, Governor of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dear Sir:-

I write to you to request you to pardon Joe Hill, who is under sentence to be shot in October in your city. As a citizen and a law student I have followed the case and I do not believe that Hill had a fair trial. The evidence was purely circumstantial, the jury was prejudiced, and the defendant was refused his constitutional right to choose his own counsel. The crime he was convicted of is totally at variance with his reputation as a peacful citizen and possessing a kindly nature.

I trust you will pardon him and save him from death.

Yours very truly,

John C. [?]

Governor of Utah,

My Dear Sir:-

I appeal to you in the name of God, and suffering Humanity!

I do not wish to burden you with one word more that is necessary for the occasion. I am only a poor farmer but I am a mite of God's creation. and I thank God that he has emplanted in my soul a desire to do my humble part in this life and while I confess that I have respect for the future reward as did Paul, I also believe that the future reward for either the just or unjust has but little weight or incentive to my actions. Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and give my body to be burned and have not charity (love) I am nothing! -Paul

Now to the point! I have just read a touching letter from Joe Hill, appealing for a new hearing. Now dear Sir I know you not personally but you are blessed in a very responsible charge. and may God enable you to be guided not as so many are in this
