Honorable Governor W. Spry Salt Lake City, Utah

Dear Sir

As an citizen of the United State I ask you to use your influence to help to secure a new trial for Joe Hill, who has been convicted on the flimsiest kind of evidence.

I am not an member of that organziation but I am an strong believer in justice, let him have his due right and if evidence is against him then let the law have here way. But if it is only to get rid of an agetator I protest against [?] law, and I think as an honorable Gentleman you will protest also.

I am yours repeckfull John Silberling

Please make money orders or checks payable to the treasurer and mail the same to the secretary. [/left-hand side]

[right-hand side] ADMINSTRATION: NON-PARTISAN. NON-SECTARIAN. EX. COMMITTEE OF 7, COUNCIL OF 25, [/right-hand side]

New York, August 20, 1914

To His Excellency, William Spry Governor, State of Uah Salt Lake City, Utah

The International Workers' Defense League, an organization composed of all the progressive and labor elements of New York City, hereby protest to your Excellency against the unfair and partisan verdict rendered by the Criminal Court of Salt Lake, in the case of Joseph Hillstrom, recently convicted of the charge or murder. An examination of the evidence, discloses the fact that it was entirely insufficient to warrant a conviction. The circumstances surrounding the case show conclusively that Hillstrom's conviction was due soley to his activity in the labor movement.

Our organization demands of your Excellency in the name of justice, that you use your authority to prevent this unjust sentence being carried out.

C.B. HOFFMAN, PRESIDENT ARTHUR LaSUEUR, VICE PRESIDENT J.I. SHEPPARD, SECRETARY EUGENE V. DEBS, CHANCELLOR

THE PEOPLE'S COLLEGE FORT SCOTT, AKANSAS "To remain ignorant is to remain a slave."

Fort Scott, Kans., Sept. 2, 1914.

William Spry, Gov. Salt Lake City, Utah.

Highest Executive in the State of Utah:-

If your honor please, I wish to advise you that we have been elected as a committee from among the many workers in the great state of Kansas, Bourbon County, in a protest against the taking of a human life which is about to be done in your great state, seemingly, at an early date. You have a member of our Class, the Workers, now incarcerated in one of your dungeons of Hell awaiting to be led out and executed--convicted--merely on circumstantial evidence which was in its nature remote and obscure, and in a prejudiced and anitpathetic court.

In view of all this, we, therefore, demand that you, without equivocation or evasion, personally investigate the finding of this court, before you allow the life to be shot from the body of this vistim, in name Joe Hill. If you refuse to do this, your duty, the vision of this victim will rise up before you as long as you live because of the absence of justice to the toilers of your state.

Yours for justice without fear or favor, Harry Sullivan F.A. McClaren F.J. Johnson
