January 10, 1916.
Mr. J. A. Seiler,
2333 West Chestnut St.,
Louisville, Ky.
My dear Sir:—
I trust you will accept this tardy acknowledgment
of your cordial letter of November 20th, expressing
your approval of my action in the Hillstrom case.
In handling this case, I did what I regarded as
my plain and simple duty and it has been a source of
great satisfaction to me to learn that the decent and
self-respecting people of the United States support me
in my attitude. After withstanding a bombardment of
some thirty thousand letters most of which were threatening
in character, it is a real pleasure to hear from
the men of the United States who are standing for our
institutions of government.
Again thanking you and with the compliments of
the season. I am
Cordially yours,
Governor.
