E09 Davis St. Portland, Ore. August 1, 1915

Governor, State of Utah:-

At a mass meeting held in Portland, Ore, August 1st, 1915, to review the evidence in the case of Joseph Hillstrom (Joe Hill) it is unanimously decided that the State of Utah has failed to prove him guilty of the murder of J.G.Morrison, as charged; or that he had any motive for, or connection with, this crime. We hold that his conviction was secured, not by evidence, but by prejudice due to his activity in the labor movement. We call upon you, as governor of the State of Utah, to use your influence to secure for Joseph Hillstrom a fair trial, which we confidently believe will prove his innocence and bring about his speedy release.
