Dec. 22, 1915.

Mr. W.H. Price,

Ferron, Utah.

Dear Sir:-

I am in receipt fo your communication of Dec.
19th. If you saw a statement in the Deseret News
to the effect that I declared my intention of driv-
ing the I.W.W.'s from this state, you read something
which I did not utter. I did make the statement
that I intended to drive the lawless element from
the state whether members of the I.W.W. or any other
organization. I will be very glad to have you call
in my office sometime when you are in Salt Lake City
and spend several weeks reading some forty thousand
letters or more which we received in connection with
the Hillstrom case. Doubtless when you have exam-
ined these letters, you will join with me in my de-
termination to rid the state of the lawless element.

Utah has always born a reputation for law and
order and I regard it not only as my duty but look
upon it as a real pleasure to say that this record
is not sullied. Salt Lake City, for the past three
or four months, has been over-run with the anarchis-
tic and hobo element and it was only the firm stand
taken by public officials that no overt acts would
be tolerated that prevented violent demonstrations.

I appreciate very much your expression of a
desire to co-operate in cleaning up the lawless
element.

Very truly yours,

Governor.
