Tonopah, Nevada, July 28 1914. 191 His Excellency William Spry Governor of Utah. Salt Lake City,Utah.

Honorable Sir:

Tonopah Miners Union # 121 Western Federation of miners at their last regular meeting Tuesday July 28th unanimously decided to protest agains the execution of Joseph Hillstrom.Who has been convicted of murder at Salt Lake City on the flimsiest kind of circumstantial evidence. We have the proff that the jury was predjudiced against the defendant because he was a member of the"Industrial Workers of the World" and were led by this predjudice to bring in averdict which if carried to its conclusion will put a blot on the record of the State of Utah t that the lapse of a thousand years cannot remove.

The workers of this country are awakening to the crimes that are being perpetrated on the members of their class by the Judicial Tyrants and such high handed proceedings as the above can have no other effect than to speed the coming of the Revelution that will remove all possibilityof miscarriages of Justice such as the conviction of Joseph Hillstrom. Hoping that you will use the Prerogative of your office and prevent this legal murder.

Signed,Tonopah Miners Union # 121 W.F.M.

Dear Sir

I am interested in the case of Joe Hill. I as a human I don't believe in circumstancial evidence, that man may be innocent, the reason I believe that is. I was arrested in Salt Lake last winter, I am 38 yrs old, my first offense but I wouldn'nt take any thing for the expierence. I found out that the courts is a perfet farce, (police courts) I was robbed of an over coat in the Desk Sergt office given 25 days for which the other fellow ought have been convicted. I happen to be a stranger in the city, hoping this will be, food for you. I believe thier are 2 -to 1 more. honest lawyers than ministers

I also wish to state that I saw a young man drawn behind Dave Crowley's horse through the snow. with Dave Crowley on the horse. the horse not being [lopped?] but was running, I also know that Dave Crowley, beat a poor man up. on the chaingang. into a horrible shape for nothing, a poor fellow that was an idiot if you won't a more detailed statement I can give it to you, and for that reason I don't believe in circumstancial evidence
