Your communication, written on behalf of Joseph Hillstrom, has been by the Governor, filed with the State Board of Pardons, which board, under the laws of Utah, acts upon the applications for pardon and commutation. In order that you may be correctly informed as to the facts entering into the appeal of this case to the Supreme Court of Utah, I am enclosing a copy of the decision of the court for your perusal.

Joe Hill is a poetic temperament and is the author of songs of labor of genuine merit, He is of a tender sympathetic and generous nature and utterly incapable of committing the crime charged against him. And now he is sentenced to be shot for a crime he is Innocent of wont you kindly give him justice by granting him a pardon.
