San Jose, Calif., October 30, 1915.

To Gov. William Spry and the People of Utah:---

We, members of the working class assembled in the city of San Jose, Calif., do protest against the legal murder of Joseph Hilstrom.

Should you, Gov. Spry, not exercise the powers vested in you we denounce you as a party to Joseph Hilstrom's murder.

All the facts in this case have cried aloud against the treatment of this man. The echoes of the protest have come from foreign lands. You should do you duty in this case and prevent the legal murder of an innocent man.

Remember, Gov. Spry, that class prejudice and hatred recently stanined the State of Georgia with an inexcuseable crime. Your own state of Utah recently came within an hour or so of murduring another helpless member of the working class.

Should you neglect the protests in favor of Joseph Hilstrom on you will fall the responsibility for any results of such an outrageous murder. You are only permitting the execution of Joseph Hilstrom because he wrote songs sung everywhere by the advancing proletatiat. Men and women who produce all the world's holds dear will not idly permit such vengence upon the artists who voice the hopes new springing within them.
