Mrs. C. S. Whiting,
Pierre, So. Dak.

My dear Mrs. Whiting:--

I am in receipt of your letter of
August 12th, conveying Miss Summerside's message in regard to
Miss Miller. That was the second letter received asking
for her. Yesterday, one came from Cottonwood, way out west
of the river, asking that Miss Miller be allowed to come there
to speak. The lady who wrote, was some one who had heard
her at Pierre, We had to write to the Cottonwood lady that
Miss Miller's time was taken up and that she had a definite
date on the 19th, in Brookings, where she will be on the
drive.

It is too bad that Miss Miller is es-
pecially tied to this trip, as I believe she is very valuable
as a speaker, but as things are arranged at the present time
I can not say definitely that she could go to Harrold, but
hope that we may be able, some how, to fix it so she could
go later. I certainly do what to do every thing possible to
conquer Hughes County. I will keep this in mind and since
Miss Summerside has asked for no particular date, I hope we
may be able, some time in the future, to arrange it so that
Miss Miller can go there.

You did not write as to whether Besan-
con ever published Mrs. McMahon's letter in answer to his
article. I think I asked you to keep in touch and if he did,
or made any comment on it, that you be sure to send us the
paper. Since we did not receive the paper, I take it that he
has kept perfectly quiet about it. She seems also to have
completely quieted the Dakotan, as they have not published
her answer.

Our office has subscribed for the
Dakotan, the Blunt Advocate and the Alexandria Herald, be-
cause we want to, hereafter, keep in touch with what-ever
opposition might come out in these particular papers, as they
are the only ones I know of that are going this sort of thing.

Sincerely,
