My dear Mrs. Hipple:--

The responses to your letters have
begun to come in to this office. I take it from that, that
you asked them to send them here. We have heard from S. H.
Elrod, Dr. Daniels, a C. H. Lugg and C. N. Runyan, of Vermillion.
I will keep you posted, as fast as they come in.

I am enclosing you a copy of the first
shipment of the plate matter. I think it is very good, in-
deed, but I am disgusted to find that they used my cut. I
had intended that you and our South Dakota people should get
out the material for this special plate matter and that what-
ever pictures would be used, would be feature material, but
not photographs of South Dakota women, as I feel that this is
sort of disgusting to men who are working for this amendment
for patriotic reasons. I found, however, that Mrs. McMahon
had sent in some material and had sent Mrs. Ghrist's picture,
but I vetoed that by saying we did not want photographs of
women. She wrote in too, but whether this matter had already
gone to the printer, I can not say, but I find that they have
used my photograph I shall write and say that we do not want
any other photographs for the other two shipments. You may
not agree with this idea, but I do feel very strongly that we
must not, in this plate matter where we are appealing to the
reason of the men of South Dakota, undertake to do it by
sending out our faces. I do think that any feature pictures,
such as we sent in of the suffrage float in the big Sioux
Falls parade and any thing of that kind, would be valuable.
I am very glad of the map that is in this, because I think it
makes a very good showing.

Now then, I want particularly to have
you make up the material for the next shipment which is to
go out very soon. If you prefer, to come to Huron for this
purpose, I would be very glad to have you do so, but if you
think that is unnecessary, then work it our right there at
home. Mrs. McMahon understands that you will take this
matter up. If you feel that you would like to come to Huron
for this, plan to come very soon as we must get this out in
a short time. Now that you know you are going to be respon-
sible for this, you can be getting good ideas ready, that you
know will reach the people and be read. This morning, I do
not seem to have any ideas about it, but I know we have much
good material to work from.

Please return this plate sheet, when
you have finished with it, because I want to keep it on file
here at the office.

Sincerely,
