Mrs. John L. Pyle, Huron, S. Dak.

Dear Madam:

I have been requested by Mrs. Hipple to send you a statement of my opinion of the suffrage amendment to to be passed upon by the voters of the state this fall.

I favor this amendment for two reasons: First, I see no argument for male suffrage that does not apply equally to the giving of the ballot to women. Second, while I believe that all citizens ahould have the privilege of the ballot, I do not believe that it should be given to any persons until they have become full citizens of the United States and have lived in this country long enough to become acquainted with its institutions and under conditions that develop sympathy with the purposes and spirit of Americanism.

Sincerely yours, C.H Lugg State Supt. Public Instruction

Mrs. Gertrude B. Gundurson, Vermillion, South Dakota

My dear Mrs. Gunderson--

I am in receipt of your letter, in answer to mine, in regard to Mrs. Catt's coming to South Dakota and appearing on the program at the Federation meeting.

I am very glad that you would like to have her and I will take the matter up with her at once. Of course, every thing, I belive, will depend upon the action of the Senate on the suffrage amendment, as I know no power on earth can draw Mrs. Catt away from Washington, until that is settled. However, I will take the matter up with her and let you know as soon as I hear from her.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Frank J. Shuler, 171 Madison Ave., New York City.

My dear Mrs. Shuler:—

The two large boxes of buttons came to-day. We are very much delighted with them and feel that these are going to be perfectly splendid propagand. I am sure, I am safe in saying that I never saw a more attractive suffrage button, on any occasion. I think the other states will be jealous that they have not a combination whereby they can get out a pretty button like this.

We have not opened theo box which seems to be full, by its weight, but 18 boxes were in the wooden box which we opened, so there must be a great deal more than 25,000, if our estimate is correct. I want to thank the Nationa, for this additional donation toward the South Dakota campaign.

Sincerely,
