I am to show them how to go into a place and find a woman on committee who will work. Our tremendously pleased with the result of yesterdays inspirational meeting and the opportunity this afternoon to clariy the dark spots or shadows in he minds of the women here as to why, when it is so very important that the men don't take over the whole thing- I have answered this question to my own satisfaction and I think I answered it to theirs.

I think every once in a between while and wonder how Miss Sasse is getting on in Aberdeen - I hope splendid ly and that her enthusiasm and vivacity has attracted new interst and workers.

Must get this into the mail or it will not go for another 24 hours -

OFFICE OF County Superintendent of Schools Union County, South Dakota

Elk Point, South Dakota, June 17, 1918

Mrs. John L. Pyle, Huron, S.D.

Dear Mrs. Pyle; - - I am sorry and ashamed that I can show nothing done; my excuses are lack of cooperation and of time.

The Woman's Committee is dead to all appearances; even the R.C. nurse can get but little cooperation in her child welfare work.

Will you write to Miss Ovidia Johnson, Akron, Ia., I appointed her chairman in her twp. A letter might help stir her interest.

Mrs. P. Libby has worked bravely in Big Sioux Twp., but she has so much opposition; old neighborhoods feuds, so she has not much success.

Mrs. Helen Nutter is chairman in Alcester; I have not hears from her for some time, probably because I have been engrossed with school work

so I could not possibly do anything. I am still taken up with my pupils' MSS., grading them. When that is done, I shall have a little time.

I have not seen Miss Crossley lately. She addressed our teachers at institute, and asked me to have them sign a petition to the Senate to pass the Amendment; I did that.

I may as well close; I do not feel well, and can only make mistakes. I shall appeal to Maude when she gets home to put her youthful vigor and enthusiasm into the work. I have secured a few signatures to the petition and shall do what I can. If I could only find some one with time and interest to take it up.

Sincerely,

Alice A. Tollefson

Mrs. John L. Pyle, Huron, South Dakota

My dear Mrs. Pyle: —

Will you send me some extra copies of the CALL. I wish to send out letters once more reminding people of the Mississippi Valley Conference.

As I understand it, the Conference is to begin Sunday, September 1st. You have not changed your plans in regard to that date, have you?

The uncertainty in regard to our Federa Suffrage Amendment makes it hard to crystalize ideas on a program that would be suitable in September. Any ideas that you or Mrs. McMahon may have I am sure you will send me. I do hope your organization work is going on swimmingly.

I wrote to Mrs. Nellie Mc Clung the second time after finding that she had not gone to England after all but have received no answer.

With best wishes for your campaign, I am,

Cordially yours, Clara Ueland State President (Mrs. Andreas Ueland)
