and the atmosphere most enesrating all week. I went to Mrs Clark the first thing, Monday Morning. She could do nothing herself but gave me the names of the women of influence and suffrage conviction in the city - I went next to Mrs. McRoberts and the Lord softened her heart toward me and intensified her vision of the ends to be achieved and tho she was wilted and panting with the heat she went to work and because of here there was cooperation and harmony and at last a very splendid affair at the Evan's - The speakers were fine and the whole effect fine and impressive

Committee secured - Chm. Mrs. B.W. Wattles (young and capable) V. Chm. Mrs G.G Kilinger (also young matron) Sec. Miss Maud Jensen Treas Mrs. J.H. Gillespie

Rapid City, S.D. 191

It was so late when we were there Saturday night hand so early where we started the next (yesterday) morning for Rapid that I could not get together a paper dodgers window card etc to send you but will when I returning to Hot Spgs which will probably be tomorrow night -

It was the orginal idea to try to get a group from here to go up to the Deadwood School. The expense in time and money was prohibition to most if not all, and it was suggested by some of the women that some sort of eent be pulled off here to which more could go. This was on the Sunday I arrived here on my way to Hot Springs - Friday being an unfilled date with the "school"

we thought a meeting might be had in the afternoon. There it developed that Friday was flag day with a big meeting on and that any-way the "Faculty" would have to spend all day Sunday here. in Rapid - so the local women planned a mass meeting took the best theatre, got the High school orchestra and the Presbyterian Choir and meet at tr to put over the best thing possible -

It was the group of suffragisk who are not represented in the commitee who really made the thing possible As soon as I got into the hotel the morning I arrived I called Mrs. Warren by phone hoping to catch her before church. Got her just as she was starting out with a party for some outing. Mrs Noble aho was gaing as was Mrs. Bueld. Mrs. Noble referred me to Mrs.

I will learn this until after the meeting this afternoon.

630 p.m. Have just got in from the above mentioned afternoon session Have been talking the situation and methods from all angles applicable to the locality. The women asked questions and expressed their own view point and told their perplexities until I think the way really looks clear to there. They are going to start the canvass have already got some ward chairman and a very capable young matron, Mrs. Runner, to undertake the chairmanship of the canvass out side of Rapid and tomorrow morning we start out into the country on a "demon stration trip"- that is to say
