Mrs. G. W. Bird
Clear Lake, S. D.

My dear Mrs. Bird:--

We were very glad to get your report
here at the office and also the clipping in regard to the
chautauqua at Clear Lake. I have written to the two
chairmen, whose names you have sent in, one at Gary and
the other at Brandt, asking for their co-operation in re-
gard to the chautanquas. I think this was your request
that we take the matter up personally with the women in
those two places.

Now I notice with a great deal of in-
terest that your chautauqua program contains the name of
Richard O. Hobson and I want to say that when Captain Hob-
son was in South Dakota before, he made a wonderfully fine
speech for suffrage. I am not familiar with any of the
other names on the program, but it is very important that
we have these other other people speak for us, as the suffrage
speaking which comes from men who are usually representing
other big subjects of national interest and to have people
know that they feel that the question of woman suffrage and
especially as it is associated in South Dakota at this
time, is very, very important.

We have just closed a very successful
suffrage school here at Huron. It is too bad that all
of the women in the state could not be in touch with these
schools. It would be of the greatest help to our work if
all of the women who believe in suffrage were enthusiastic
workers.

Please let me hear from you again.

Sincerely yours,
