which I already begin to think will not
be very easy to do. Attended Divine
Service at St. Paul's Cathedral this afternoon.
We, my cousin and I, got home a little
earlier being about seven instead of nine. This
evening I was introduced to Mr. [Braine?]
my cousins brother-in-law who I am in-
formed is a waterman or sailor on the river.
We took quite a long walk to the town of Green-
wich and called at a Public House on the
river side called "The Union" and had
some porter. We reached home about
twelve. The streets through which we passed
were even at this late hour blazing with
gas lights and thronged with people, this
being market night. It was rather a strange
sight to me.

Sunday Aug. 23rd
My first Sunday in England. After breakfast
this morning Thomas, his little boy Walter,
and I took a very long walk to Greenwich
Park, one of the great [resorts?] of the London
people. It is about one mile square and
occupies a pretty commanding position
