Wednesday Oct 3rd We left [[Moscow]]
for [[Warsaw]] after ten days comfort
+ enjoyment. We had had very
tolerable accommodations, + on
more moderate terms than at
[[Odessa]], our Landlord was a
French restauranteur of the
name of [[Yard]], who also fur
nished us with our meals.
We had a good attendant, + the
pleasure of a female (his wife)
to make our beds +, which
latter were free from tormentors.
So that we found little reason
to regret, not getting to the English
boarding house to which we intended
to go. Our stay was much too short
for all that we would wish to have
done + seen.
We proceeded 28 [[versts]], + found
ourselves again in a log house for
the night, with our whole appera-
tus of plates spoons cups +, in
operation. We found it so cold
upon the road, in spite of being
clothed in fur from head to foot
that we thought we would be starved
to death sleeping in our poor quar-
ters, but on entering the little rooms
I could scarcely stand the airless
