Adventure of [[Buffalora]]
Their threatening to send the things to
[[Milan]] appeared an Artifice to draw money
from us, thinking perhaps that we would choose
gull'd [gulled] out of a Sum than to
go back to [[Milan]] to have the Affair determined
there - What Seem'd a Confirmation of
this, they spoke of a superior at [[Buffalora]],
with whom we could perhaps accomodate
the matter, & he immediately after appeared
The most unlucky Circumstance of all
was that the man at least found in [[Mr.
Powels]] Trunk a few ounces of french Powder
w'ch [which] he had got in [[Paris]] to charge his Pistols
with on the Road, if ever he had occasion
to use them - This they threatened him with
as if it were sufficient alone to confiscate
Both Trunks, the Chaise & every thing in
them -
At the coming in of the superior in a
Robe de Chambre, who was an old Man, &
appeared another Justice Ballance - The
Cause was heard - My Watch gold Watch
was being found to be mark'd [marked] with my name & us'd [used] for some
Years - & the Sulphurs perhaps not being siezable -
so these could neither of them be confiscated -
