[[Parma]]
of w/ch [which] were first discovered by some
Peasants in the Year 1747_ & some Inscrip=
tions & other Curiosities have since been dug up.
It has doubtlessly been destroy'd by an Earthquake,
but it is remarkable that [[Pliny]] (or [[Livy]]) makes
no mention of it.
Adjoining to this is ther famous Theatre
mentioned by [[Nugent]] _ so well contriv'd [contrived] that
a whisper may be heard in any part of the
Room w/ch [which] is very large, & loud sounds may be
heard distinctly without any Confusion _
There are no Boxes, but rows of Seats rising
back & above one another, like in y/e [the] Ancient
Theatres & Amphitheatres _ The Man told us
it was is large eno' [enough] to contain 11,000 Persons _
scarcely so many could be accomodated at once
in my Opinion _ He told us, it has
not been used for a great many Years, since
[[Don Carlos]] present King of Spain was here _
& that then water was le [?] brought by Pipes into
the Area or Pit 3 feet deep, & a representation
of Naval Combats &c [et cetera] were then exhibited _
