Whilst at Morano - the Streets of w'ch [which]
are like those of Venice, but the main
Street much Wider in many places than
the grand Canal of Venice - There
is a Bridge before at ye [the] place where the Gondolas,
set out from; w'ch [which] pass under this Bridge
perhaps 1000 or 15,00 in Number in the
afternoon of Ascension Day in by [?]
of when there is a racing on the Water w'ch [which] is said to be
one of the most splendid Entertainment
that can well be imagined as well on
acc't [account] of the Dexterity of the Men, the Swift-
-ness of the Gondolas - the various rich
ornaments Col'rs [Colors] &c w'ch [which] they hang out, &
the great Numb'r [Number] in Motion at once as well
as the Crowd of Spectators, both Gentl'n [Gentlemen] & Ladies
who follow in Gondolas & look out of the
windows at this sight w'ch [which] they are so
very fond of -
Tis in the forenoon that the Doge goes
to wed the sea; & in the Afternoon that they enjoy
this Diversion -
