They then pour wat'r [water] on the floor
to see that it is even & that it does not
run to one side more than anoth'r [another] -
w'ch [which[ is a proof of its being even &
well done - As it rises in some
places like dough & blisters if not
sufficiently beat, they fill this up
with the same materials or Compos'n [Composition],
& beat it [up] hard firm & even with
the rest -
They then wet the surface all
over with Wat'r [Water] & by mo help of a
great W't [Weight] of Lead or Iron with a smooth
surface - w'ch [which] being ty'd [tied] to different ropes,
& dragg'd [dragged] from Side to Side by different
Persons ie backwards & forward like
people sawing of wood, this contin'd [continued] for
hours togeth'r [together] & many several days, it is at
length polish'd [polished] very smooth -
[As] These People work all days alike
feast days as well as other days, for
if they sh'd [should] intermit the Composit'n [Composition] w'd [would] be
too hard for them to make any Impress'n [Impression] - on
