Road to [[Padua]] -

Monday. July 22 Sat out this morning for
from [[Bologna]] for [[Padua]] between four & five OClock -
Stopp'd [Stopped] to dine at an indifferent Inn twenty
Miles from [[Bolonga]] - & on acct. [account] of the excessive
heat of the Sun stopp'd [stopped] here from abt. [about] midday
til after five OClock; then proceeded 12
Miles on to [[Ferrara]]. Put up at the Post
House where we had for Supper a boil'd [boiled] fowl
a stew'd [stewed] fowl & a roasted fowl, & little more -
for w'ch [which] the Landlord was unconcionable eno'
to demand 18 Pounds -

[[Ferrara]] is an ancient & large Town
the Streets pretty regular, but the Buildings
not magnificient; the Town seems populous
at least there were a great Number of People
in the Street, & more stir than we imagin'd [imagined]
from [[Nugent]]s Acc't [account] -

Tuesday July 23 - Set out this
Morning at 6 OClock, crossed the [[Po]] &
sev'l [several] oth'r [other] Rivers. Stopp'd [Stopped] at 12. in the
Town of [[Rovigo]] w'ch belongs to the Venet'n [Venetian] States
ab't [about] 20 Miles distant from Fierrara [[Ferrara]] - after
Dinner proceeded 15 Miles to [[Montselice]] w'ch [which]
is 10 Miles from [[Padua]], where we had
pretty good Lodgings -
