The ceilings & upper part covered with rich mosaic / Roman a great deal of gilding.
Nearly opposite the Duomo are statues of Brunelleschi & [blank space] who commenced the Duomo.
The more one sees this group of buildings the more one admires.
The Duomo is a grand pile.
Close to this is a hospital, saw the brethern entirely covered in black returning with two empty biers.

Or San Michele, beautiful groups of statuary in the outside & exquisite tracery over the window places.
Inside is a superb tabernacle erected by Orcagna from money collected during a great plague.
It encloses a sacred picture of the Virgin.
The carvings are exquisite white marble, some Roman mosaic in the little twisted columns, beautiful statuettes, &c.
La Badia - the entrance to this has no appearance of that of a church but turning to the left we found the church - two fine monuments by Nino da Fiesole and a very rich & elaborate carved wooden ceiling are the most remarkable objects.
Then to the Bargello or Palezzo del Podesta now a National Museum.
Lower floor a collection of Armors
The inner court has the arms of the Podesta all around
