about half of the storm, and got on to its South
Eastern edge. I furled the Fore Topsail sail and
rounded to on the Port (coming up) tack: ships
head NW & WNW; it was blowing furiously from
SW and SSW with hight cross seas from SE NE and
Northward but heaviest from SE with a deluge
of rain and the dark lurid weather so well known
to those who have been in many such storms.
The Barometer was lowest at 3.30 PM 29.35 at
which time the centre of the storm bore NNE
from which we were 60 miles distant as I judged
from this period, the mercury began gradually
to rise. The gale blew heavily at SSW and South
till 5 AM of the 5th when the weather began to
clear up but there was a tremendous cross sea
left and a dark bank of clouds in the NNW
horizon. I am happy to say that we came out
of the Cyclone quite undamaged.

I made sail at 6 am & stood to the Northd [Northward] and at
noon was in Latitude 19.16 N & Longitude 88.46 E
Bar [Barometer] 29.77 wind South & moderate but very squally.
