20 "In crossing deep hollows
where it is necessary to construct
an aqueduct for the passage
of the Rajbuha; it is always
desirable to establish an escape
above, or on the upstream side
of the aqueduct. This escape
ought to be built at a point
selected for its convenience, and
for its offerings easy means of
delivering the escape water into
the low levels with as little
wear and tear as possible.
21 "The use of the escapes re-
ferred to in para : 20, ought to
be reserved for occasions when the
protection of the aqueduct is
needed; for this reason, that the
situation of these works will be
