vance has kept us distinct from gentilism, as the
everlasting witnesses of the truths of Sinai. So long
as my Maker permits that I may exercise some
influence among the community of American Jews, it will
be cast on the side of an intelligent, but uncompro-
mising Conservatism. Trust me, brethren, and glad-

givest every man according to his ways and according to the
fruits of his doings, deign to accept my intentions
and bless them with a success which will restore to
Judaism losses sustained. May all the children of
Thy covenant in the country which Thou hast greatly
favored, show gratitude by a return in humility to
the commandments of Thy Sovereign Wisdom. Crown
the year which we have just entered with Thy grace
and may every tongue ([Hebrew]) sing ([Hebrew]) Thy praises for the abund-
ance of Thy gifts. Grant that this venerable religious body
may abide in peace, as the effect of an accord of sentiments in the
faith, entrusted to the safe keeping of Israel till the end of time.

I have completed my transcription of the English-language text on this page. (I will not transcribe the 3 Hebrew letters in parentheses -- but I believe them to be Tav, Lamed, and (probsbly) Qof -- in that order.)
