Comprised chiefly of culinary recipes from the middle Atlantic region of the United States with recipes for rock fish, shad, sturgeon, crabs, and oysters, as well as recipes for preparing wild ducks, meats, pickles, preserves, cakes and biscuits, keeklings, puddings, floating island, small beer, and cider wine. Of particular interest is a detailed recipe for making portable soup and "Philadelphia receipt for cream cheese." Section near the end has recipes for dyes and dyeing using natural materials. Recipes are attributed to Mrs. Armistead, Mrs. Heath, Mrs. Pollard, Mrs. Turberville, Mrs. Taliaferro, Mrs. Grimwell, Cousin Nelly Alexander and others.

Then the yolks of 8 eggs, whites of 2 do _ nearly 1/2 lb of sugar pounded & 1/2 lb of melted butter beast all well together & when your oven is rea= =dy pour it on the sweetmeats an hour or less will bake it You may use any other sweetmeats you like.

Ginger Nuts Put 6 ozs of flour in a pan before the fire with a lb & an half of butter as much sugar, & molasses enough to wet it, warming it well, ginger caraway allspice & orange peel to your taste.

Jumbles Two lbs of flour 1 1/4 lbs of sugar 1 of butter & 4 eggs let the sugar be put in last & slightly.

Bread Pudding Crumble a penny loaf of bread in a quart of milk boil it till soft take 6 eggs a little nutmeg 4 ozs of sug[ar] 1/4 lb of butter, stir these well together & butter a dish & bake it 1/2 an hour
