Petersburg April 1st 1822

Dear Sirs Enclosed herewith we hand you C.A. Hills letter it seems from his letter that if exertions are made that the note of Robt A. Taylor endorsed by Hill, might be secured. We have referd Mr Hill to you and wish you to take such steps in this business, that will best protect our interest - and particularly request your attention to it, as delay may cause the debt to be lost. We have had the pleasure of addressing you several times about our business in your hand, and from your delay in not making us remittances and sending on the Dfts of Hinton & Brame we have suff'd loss, and experienc'd much serious inconvenience. We are now waiting an answer to our last & hope you will not let it be many days before we hear from you. The Dfts on Henton & Brame must be dated on the day the sale was to take place of Chalmers land at 9 [?] fm that time

Inform us about the situation & if you saw ODeneal of Rockingham as we requrested of you, what have you done in A. Masons business? D H & Co

Petersburg 3d May 1822

Dear Sir

In your letter to me some time ago, you mentioned, that on examination of Scott's Deed of trust for the benefit of his creditors, you were of opinion, that my claim would obtain a preference; I am now told that the property has been sold under that deed of trust & altho the sale was forbid by his father in law, he nevertheless became the purchaser at very inconsiderable prices, under such circumstances, I should think the sale would not be valid, & if it is, shall I have any claim from it. I hope you will examine into it & see that I have that justice which I am lawfully entitled to, I have also been informed, that the Deed for the land was made to Scott, as the purchase, at the shffs. sale, was made on my acct & in paymt of an [Exon?] for my benefit, the Deed should be made to me, which I hope you have had done before this, as it may be dangerous to
