Brought home from school a
heavy load of water-melons. We
have decided to distribute the
remains of the commission
needles & thread in this manner.
We give it in exchange for melons
or anything eatable the children
have to sell which we can lend
to the hospitals for the wounded
soldiers and we send it to the
colored hospitals because the goods
were originally meant for them, &
because the other hospitals have
most friends to care for them.
All the superintendents have mel-
ons offered by cartloads by the peo-
ple who seem as if they cannot
give enough.
Our house in the [Chase Lane] - our
Oakshade has been robbed to a large
amount in clothing & beddings.
