[floating text [10 Feb. 1841] I Thomas D. Bennehan of Orange County North Carolina do make by this instrument my last Will & Testament in manner and form following I give to my friend Miss Charlot Rice, as some reward for her attachment to me & to my family, the sum of Fifty Dollars to be paid to her annually during her life by my Executor I give to my friend & manager the sum of Five Hundred Dollars, [Fendal Southernland] he has been to me a most efficient friend I give to my friend & neighbour James Leathers [Sen.] the sum of Two Hundred Dollars I give to [my friend?] Mark A. [Tate?], the use of my houses at my Fish Dam place [illegible] & the use of all the Lands which he now cultivates [illegible] exception of my Singleton plantation for the use of which he now pays rent, free from all cost & rent for the term of Five Years I give to my nephew Paul C. Cameron the sum of Twenty Five Thousand Dollars to be paid to him in Stocks, Bonds, or money as I may possess or be entitled to at the time of my death, with this injunction, that he shall have my man Virgil, his wife [?], my boy William commonly called Toast, all of whom have been to me faithful Servants freed & emancipated or should they prefer it removed to Affrica, my wish being that they no longer remain Slaves & that he shall pay to Virgil after his emancipation or on his removal to Affrica the Sum of Five Hundred Dollars I give to my friend Duncan Cameron the sum of One Thousand Dollars to be appropriated to Christian & benevolent purposes at his discretion. I also bequeath to him my one half of the Slaves given to me by the late Dr .John Umstead of Orange to have emancipated & freed, which I have not been able to effect, they are the Daughters & their increase, of the Woman Dicey who has been emancipated, he fully understands all my wishes to carry the desire of Dr. Umstead into full effect
I give devise & bequeath to my beloved Sister Rebecca Cameron & her Heires [heirs] forever, all the rest & residue of my Estate Real & Personal that I may possess, or be entitled to at the time of my death, with full power to her the said Rebecca to dispose of the same among her Children at such times & in such portions, as she may think most expedient & advisable -- I [constitue?] & appoint my friend Duncan Cameron Executor of this my last Will & Testament, hereby revoking all former instruments purporting to be my last Will & Testament.
