It is proposed to purchase this tree and three surrounding acres of land from the Laughinhouse Estate in order that this tree may be preserved and a small holly arboretum developed thereon. It is suggested that this may compliment the Tryon Palace and other historical spots around New Bern as tourist attractions. Mr. Whitfield states that the Governor has been consulted and has encouraged him to make this request, which has the endorsement of nurserymen and garden clubs in North Carolina, and the American Holly Society.

In brief, North Carolina State is requested to present, through proper channels, to the Governor and Council of State, an application for $3,000 for the purchase of the land and tree and $100 for the incidental charges of survey, etc., the appropriation to come from the Land Purchase Fund administered by the Department of Administration upon authorization of the Governor and Council of State. The University assumes no obligation in the transaction, financial or otherwise, other than the consulting capacities of the Department of Horticultural Science customarily offers. The maintenance force of Tryon Palace will be responsible for the maintenance and development of the Project.

After a very brief report from President Friday, it was moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn.
