Resignation of Chancellor Aycock

President Friday made the following announcement:

"During the academic year, 1956-57, Chancellor William Aycock agreed to accept the Chancellorship of the University at Chapel Hill with the understanding that at an appropriate time he would return to his professorship in the University's School of Law.

"Several months ago he expressed to me his desire to resume teaching in the Law School beginning in the fall term of 1964. I have honored his request and wish to advise you of this action.

"The unyielding stand of Chancellor Aycock for the freedom of the University, his introduction of constructive administrative procedures, his success in improving financial support of the University, the establishment of new distinguished professorships, and the development of a longrange plan for the growth of the University are but a few of the achievements of his administration.

"No administrator has served the University with greater devotion. His has been a total commitment of mind and strength to advance the University at Chapel Hill to greater accomplishment.

"I am delighted that Chancellor Aycock will continue to serve as Chancellor for the next academic year and thereafter will be available for special assignments which will utilize his experience in University affairs.
