256239 N ame Home Economics Rank Present Proposed 13,800 15, 300 Resignations and Terminations Mr. Robert Grogan, Assistant Registrar, effective June 30, 1963, to accept position as Registrar at Charlotte College. Dr. Elaine Penninger, Assistant Professor of English, effective end of academic year 1962-63. On motion of Mrs. Lathrop, duly seconded, the above report and recommendations of Chancellor Singletary were unanimously approved. Vice President Anderson Dr. Anderson presented the following recommendation for establishment of Bachelor of Arts Degree at State College, and it was approved: "Chancellor Caldwell has submitted a proposal for the Bachelor of Arts Degree at State College. The Board of Trustees at its meeting on January 25, 1963, approved the Bachelor of Arts Degree at State College in principle. The specific proposal submitted by Chancellor Caldwell has been reviewed by the appropriate deans of the three units of the University and they have recommended unanimously its approval. I am therefore requesting your approval of a curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree at the Raleigh campus of the University." Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at the University in Chapel Hill Dr. Anderson also presented the proposal for a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at the University in Chapel Hill which was held over from the Special Meeting of the Executive Committee on May 27th. This matter was again discussed at some length, and Mr. Bryant moved that it be approved. The motion was duly seconded and it was put to a vote and carried with three members voting against its approval, Mrs. Lathrop, Mrs. Burgwyn, and Judge Mintz. Speakers Bill President Friday then referred to the recent action of the General Assembly in enacting the so-called "Speakers bill", and stated: "Apart from a decision as to how the Board of Trustees shall carry out the duty which is placed upon it of enforcing this legislation, we must consider the harm that the legislation does to the idea and ideals of the University and how we shall proceed to remedy that. We believe that the only admissible course of action is to exert every effort to secure elimination of the legislation at the earliest opportunity. | 256 |
