New Orleans July 4th 1853
Col R C Ballard
Louisville

Dr Sir

We are just in receipt of a
letter under date of the 24th ulto from our Mr. Cox. He
calls our attention to an apparent error in your a/c.
The draft for $3000 charged to you on the 23rd August
1852 should have been, "to E Crutchfield & Co" instead of
C M Rutherford. The amt is right, and the charge
correctly made, on our Books, but Mr [Vase?] in copying
the acct inserted the name of C M R, instead of
E Crutchfield & Co. The charge of $8.25 freight re
paid on [McBurths & Terrell?] should never have gone
into your acct and it was not our intention
that it should, and therefore wtite you with the amt
We are without any specific news from any of
your plantations. Judge Boyd and family are now
here, on their way home from Pass Christian.
The Judge is in fine health, and thinks favorably
of the prospects of the growing crop of cotton.
He has ordered bagging, rope & twine for Magnolia
and Lipine place.
Wishing you and Mrs.Ballard with the "little ones"
good health
