6, Reaping Wheat. J.Pendleton came here and I went with him to J.Clark's to dinner. Molly Barbour also dined there- Weather remarkably dry- Bro'r James very unwell, taken yesterday-
7, I think my father is better today than since he was taken sick. Finished wheat & rye by 12 o'clock- I went ot Court house after dinner, saw Mr.Rob't Wilson who brought 2 doz Lemons for G.Taylor, sent by Mr.Blair, they were not very good. Betty died-after a long sickness-
8, [Sunday] E.Pendleton came and staid ab't an hour. Chs Taylor & Hub Taylor dined here, we had punch. A very little shower of rain.
9, G.Taylor rode to J.Taylors. I walked there, we dined there in Comp'y, Hardin Burnley- J.T. was gone into Culpeper towards Mr.Glassells. After dinner, H.Burnley, J.Pendleton, T.Barbour & F.T. went to Hansford's- a light shower rain wet ground 1/2 inch. [Hansford's was a public house or tavern at Orange C.H.- They played "Fives" there- W.K.A.-]
10, Went to J.Taylors with one Tiglar & copied a Will. Tiglar came back & exchanged 1 Dish, 6 plates & 6 small Basons for old pewter, 12 lb for 16 lb old. G.Taylor & self dined at Ch Taylors.
11, G.Taylor went to Mrs James's to reaping, I went to Courthouse- Sale- Negro boy 9 years old sold for £20.2.0 Reu Taylor sent some honey here.
12, A good shower of rain fell about 1 o'clock this morning-went with G.Taylor to Mr.T.Bells to his son John's wedding, who was married the 5th instanc to Miss Judy Burnley-
13, We went again to Mr.T.Bells-as much Comp'y as yesterday-agreeable Entertainment.
14, Cutting G.Taylors Oats-very cool, Light last night in the North- very clear day- We dined at Uncle E.Taylors with J.Taylor, John Pendleton, Col.Madison & C.Taylor. After dinner walked to Hansfords-Saw C.Porter jr who asked me to let him have some interest warrants at 10 Pr cent Discount which I agreed to do. Aurora Borealis again tonoght.
15, Charles Porter jr sent Abner Porter jr for the warrants, I inclosed him No. 905, £12., 907, £6., 109, £4.15.11. If he does not make use of them he is to return them. We went to Hub Taylors & dined in Company with J.Taylor son & jr, J.Pendleton, T.Barbour & their wives, Reuben Taylor & family- Clouds.
16, Rainy morning-very little fell- Ploughing Turnep Patch, Jos Clark was here about Cart. Capt Burnley & he dined here, Clear evening-Lightning Southward
17, Very cool & clear morning, went with G.Taylor to J.Taylors- Maj'r Madison & Capt Cowherd were on Commiss'rs business- Rob Taylor & wife & Ch Taylor also dined there- I rec'd 10 yds Oznab's 1 lb powder & 4 shot, bro't by Griffy from D.Blairs-
18, Dined at home- walked to J.Taylors after dinner. Sowed Turnep Seed in Melon patch Borrowed bottle of Rum of J.Taylor.
19, J.Taylor, J.Pendleton & C.Taylor dined here-
20, A small shower of rain fell last night- Fogg on Mountains & cloudy morning but no rain- Took down Gammons & Shoulders, found some of them wormy, washed them with Brine & hung up again- Meat on hand 23 Gam's 21 Shoulders, 19 Midlings & 8 pieces of Beef- I went on the Mountain, killed a squirrel.
21, Rode with G.Taylor to Courthouse, returned to uncle Taylors, dined there with Col.Edmund Pendleton, James Taylor & his wife, Saw #Col'o J.Taylor's son James, who gave me a letter from +Rich'd Taylor. [*This was probably the famous Statesman and jurist, President of the Va. Convention and author, 1776, of the Resolutions instructing the Va.Delegates to vote for Declaration of Independence. He was son of Henry Pendleton & Mary Taylor, dau. of James teh immigrant.
#Col.James Taylor IV, of Caroline, son of James III, nephew of Col.George T., and 1st, cousin of diarist.
+Commodore Richard Taylor, bro. of diarist, lived in Caroline Co.-W.K.A.-
