& Matthew Brown son of old Isaac B of Brown's ferry of old; on his way to Marianna to attend some law case; Then Mrs [Bestwick], a fine, good old lady of Mobile, with her little neice Sally Stockton of Quincy Florida, a sprightly, intelligent, talkative little creature of 10 years old; She plays Solitaire finely; [we] all play 7up & Whist &c I have read "Home Influence" by Grace Aguilar, which I found on board, a most charming work, what an excellent impressive moral We are passing Cat Island I must go out & see

Monday night April 28th Our schooner is lying in Apalachicola Bay in the pass; The journey has been uncannily pleasant a light breeze but steady & just from the right quarter I have enjoyed the air, the sky & the deep blue sea; The water was brightly phosphorescent at night Yesterday was the Sabbath, bright & balmy, but little to be recognized however from the deportment of my fellow (the text from here down is obscured by a partial page of a drawing ' previously shown)

island, & as the tide was rising at flood, & there was but little breeze, the boat would not be managed, & the anchor was dropped; the pilot boat is anchored close astern, & we will get into Apalachicola tomorrow We have been playing 7 up & whist around the table, & I have been finding comfort in playing on my flute I am near in sight of dear Florida once more, and near my dear brothers & sisters again God grant that I may meet them in happiness & joy God bless us all

i owe the following amounts,

to Cavert $122 to Caldwell 105 to Miller 12 to Alderman 10 to John Keyes 12 or 15

On Saturday Dec 2nd 1848 I signed a note for $122 payable to B. G. Alderman or bearer, in twelve months Wade Keyes endorsing for me For the horse bot from Cavert

on Wednesday Dec 13th 1848 I gave a note to Dr Isaac A. Caldwell for $105, payable one day after date

Bot a penknife at Alderman's price 80c Dec 23rd 1848 a congress knife $1.75 [????] slippers .50

Dec at Friday's 2 1/2 yds calico a 20 .50 Dec at Friday's one tin pan .75

[Feb] 6th bot of Skipper one box mustard

Hobley's Dict, and London Lancet given to Ben Allen in exchange for Ollendorff's German teacher & Key the latter to be brot up to me Wednesday night Sept 12th 1849
