[For Mrs. Geo W. Mordecai Raleigh N.C.]
Nov 2nd 1865 —
My dear Mrs. Mordecai : We arrived very safely in due time Monday night. Mr. Collins and Duncan met us at the depot — the latter was here only for the night. We found every one quite well & very glad to see us — Many questions were asked about you all & all were delighted to hear of Maggie's improvement in health. Her father says nothing of a visit to Raleigh just now, but he did intend going to Haw River yesterday, but the weather was so gloomy —Mary & Mr. Collins went last eve g at 10 1/2 — Mary was very glad to be quiet for a day or two & she left us feeling much better than she did on
[margin] Is Mr. Carter, who has a nursery in Raleigh now? I have a special reason for asking.
Monday. Mrs. Edmund Ruffin came yesterday & is staying with Mrs. Roulhac. Dr. Warren's family are going on Friday. Mrs. Collins & party did intend to leave last night but this weather prevented — Yesterday we went to see them — Annie & Mary in the buggy. Mr. Collins & I on horse back. Every one in the house sends very much love for you, Miss Mildred & Maggie. The little children are very dear & sweet — Annie was charmed with the sugar — I had a little this morning from Douglas Bell telling me that he would leave on the early train next Tuesday for Virginia — I cannot put Mr. Cameron to the
trouble of putting me on this train in the night & as it will give me real pleasure to have another little peep at you. I think now that I will go down on Monday eve — I hope Mr. Cameron will go with me — this is my present situation; but you will hear again from some of us. I think that Lizzie Jones will go when Rebecca does — Mrs. Jones has given up her trip to Raleigh & will not go to S.C. until after Xmas — She will spend her time at Dr. Jones — Tell Maggie that I not like to send the $4 by mail. I will forward it by private opportunity.
My best love for Miss
Mildred & Maggie, I have thought of you all many times since I left you. I did enjoy my visit to you so much - nothing from Mr. Patterson yet. I fear that I shall have to go home without seeing him. Tell Maggie that Mary said more than once that she was so glad to see her again & that it was a first-rate plan for her to drive down to the depot with us. Please remember me most kindly to Mr. Mordecai & Mr. Cameron.
With much love dear Mrs. Mordecai. I am truly & affectionately your friend, Mary P. Rowland
