Petersburg, August 2nd, '99

In host my dear Brother, permit me to address a few lines to you by the Waggoner who carries Mr. Kirklands goods: Mr. Anderson desires me to tell you that he has heard of your books, they by mistake were carried to Charles City. They however are safe. Mama left us on Monday last accompanies by Mr. A. Walker, he returned today. They are all well There the knowledge of which mite(?) afford you pleasure I am sure - I escaped long before this to have been favored with a few lines from you but have been disappointed, let it not be long my dear Brother before I have that pleasure. Mary's health is much better than it has been for some time, her spirits continue to [illegible] it must be time alone which will make an alteration(?) in them. Mr. Walker intends taking a trip up your way shortly & by him I will send you three more of your shirts and stocks if he can carry them. The piece of linen made seven, the then(?) I mite keep until I have the pleasure
