We are just now favourd with Yours of the 1st Inst. by Mr. Forrest who delivered us £12.. 13.. 6 at your Cr.. —We are sorry the ps. Cloth sent did not suit & leave it to yourselves either to return it or keep it & pay when convenient

By the bearer you'll receive a Hhd Molasses & acc herewith—We have no Iron left but square Bars but can procure it properly assorted at we believe £36 a Ton.

We have no West Indian Run but can get it at 3/3 Cask pd. down—There are no Almanacks in Town but shall procure some from Richmond by the time your next Wagons

come in - There is very good port wine to be got in Bottles - the price we believe is about [ ?] a doz. Mr Donalson begs his best respects to you and joins in wishing you many happy returns of the Season Our assembly rose last Friday but did nothing respecting old Debts - We are with much respect Gents ? Watson of [ ?] Poor D. Thomson died a few days ago

Virga Petersb.g 21st march 1785 Dr Sir I refer you to my other letters & this conveyance [illegible] Johnston & Bennehan will hand this they want [afen?] goods from Glasgow, their Old Correspondents [illegible] Alstons declining the Virga Trade. I thought a proper Opportunity to introduce [illegible] to you They are my old Intimate Friends & from an experience of 19 years have found [illegible] punctual honest & able I have done all I Could to make an Intimacy between y.r Brother & their Friends [illegible] I am sure will be for mutual benefit. I hope youl Value my recommend =ation so far as to comply punctually with the scheme handed & in time, that the goods will be at the Lowest market price without [much?] I cannot look my Friends in the Face or do you a Service [We?]

[illegible] Johnston & Benehan Gentlemen We are favor'd with yours under the 24th [illegible], with asmall Cash of Butter which we will sell for your [accd?]. Your Letters to [illegible] Alston shall be forwarded by first oppy which will probably be two [illegible] that are to sail for Glasgo about the end of the Mo_ Inclosed you have [illegible] of [illegible] sent you by the Bearer which we wish safe to hand ____ [Time?] [Rec.d?] of yours of the 12th [illegible] with 4 Hhds Tobacco we have had no oppy till now of advising their fate, and are sorry now to inform they were all refused (being very mean) [each?] [illegible] Hargrover which weighed [994?] [illegible]-- The Inspectors having been very busy has prevented getting any of the others picked except John Hargrovers out of which was saved 450 [illegible] 1/15 for picking Rum [airs?] 420 [Neat?]-- They promise to have the other two picked in a day or two when we shall make the most we can of them for your [Acco?]. The Crop Hhd we shall attend to your directions in disposing of

The Current price yesterday was 34/ & if more cannot be got for it shall pass it to your [illegible] at that--- We paid Ryan & Maccado £70/ for Hauling & the Farmers up 8/, in all £7.1% of your Debit-- The Tallow we have not yet been able to turn into Cash-- We have only to add that We are very respectfully Gentlemen Your mo obt Serv Donaldson & Stott

Petersburg April 18th 1785 Gentlemen We are favord with yours of the 5" [illegible] & Mr [illegible] whose Tobacco we are sorry to say is refused- when pick'd we shall dleiver the Notes to Mr Buchanan agreeable to your directions, the we supper he will decline receiving them having done so with the two belonging to [Nance?] & [Worker?] which are now both picked- we advised in our last what was saved of the one but have not yet got the [illegible] saved in the other, [illegible] it does not much exceed 100 if that-- It remains at your Credit on the Inspectors Books till you give us farther directions conerning it There is at present no Inspection at [illegible] but they mean to apply for one next [illegible] when it is not doubled one will be granted There is one however at Milners, where we should suppose it [illegible] be your Interest to send the Tobacco you are doubtful will not [illegible] the Inspection here__ the distance from [illegible] to [illegible] is not great- where our W.[J?] will have it in his power to supply any [illegible]

[India?] [illegible] you may [want?]- [illegible] you have Bill of [Parch?] of Fund sent by this Waggon- You will also receive your Goods from Mr Buchanen- he is sich & probably will nor write you by this [illegible]- The Articles you mention we shall take care to lay past for you when our Goods arrive & what we cannot furnish shall give M Buchanan a List of- We received the Butter & shall do the best we can with it as well as the [illegible] what is still on hand- No arrivals yet from Britain which is rather remarkable- Tobacco is here at present from 34/ to 35/ in Cash We have only to add that We are with much respect Gentlemen Your mo ob Serv Donaldson & [Stotts?]

Petersburg April 25h 1785 [illegible] Johnston & Bennehan Gentlemen We are favord with yours of the 13" with two Hhds Tobacco which we hope to be able to advise you the fate of before we seal this, & if it [illegible] shall be delivered to M Buchanan agreeable to your directions- The Note you sent us we have already delivered [illegible]__ The two Hhds bought by Tomlinson are not yet pickt this we have repeatedly spoken to the Inspectors- as soon as they are, shall advise you what is saved- below you have a state of the two sort formerly by [illegible]- There are no Spring Goods yet arrived here- & [consequently?] have been able to supply but few of the Articles you or [deed?] & [indeed?] to have got all we must have gone to half the Stores in Town We grace Mr Buchanan a List of what we could
