Dr Sir [Edenton?] 4th March 1783 Since I had the plasure of writing you by Mr. Cain, this is the first opportunity that has offered. I should have imbraced this opportunity of conveying up the callico and Molasses but thought most advisable to decline pruchasing of them as present, as I expect they may be had upon much lower terms in a very short time. European goods have fallen at least 100 [crossout] G within this three weeks. a few West Indin articles continue to be high. good alum salt may be had at two dollars a Bushel.

The Gentlemen of Edenton have been amused sometime with an expectation of a speedy pease, in consequence of which they have laid up most of their ressels. So there is very Little Business done here at present.

Should a pease take place in the course of this summer, which I think will hardly admit of a doubt, I expect few of the Merchants now in Edenton will remain here, And shall be glad to know whether you have any thoughts of entering into [?] and also beg your advice with regard to Myself. Colonel Thackston was proposing to me when in Halifas to settle a [?] Cross Creek, of which he imma gined you would willingly hold a part, I am sensible the Place is much Better caluclated for [?] than any other in
