[Embossed letterhead] CALIFORNIA AFRO-AMERICAN MUSEUM 600 State Drive, Exposition Park Los Angeles, California 90037

[Handwritten]

July 15, 1987 [REDACTED TEXT]

Dear David,

Here is the passport with Visa for Brazil -- the tickets should be next. I am up to my nose and can't wait to get a breath of fresh air.

Would you invoice the state (me) for [REDACTED TEXT] so that I can put it in the system before I leave. The foundation is advancing cost of tickets & expenses. Save me the cancelled ticket & hotel bills for the foundations records. I will include the expenses check with the plane tickets.

The enclosed package came for you. I opened it because it had Ruby's name on it but it appears to be personal.

David Jackson has called many times looking for info or just to touch base. He says that the exhibition is expanding and he now needs a few dead artists in the show.

Are you sure we are going to Japan?

Hope your back is better. We don't want you carried around Brazil in a litter. Will call Monday. [RIGHT HANDED TEXT REDACTED]

Dear David,

I hope you are feeling better than you sounded on the telephone. Your enthusiasm level is really at the bottom of the barrel.

I really feel that we must move ahead rapidly with decisions related to number of pieces, sculpture vs paintings, actual selections, dimensions, titles and the specific approach in analysis of the works based on our original criteria.

As you will see from the slides, several pieces look alike, some artists favor each other, etc. Although I haven't received them all, because I am trying to get a set to you & to Henry, it would seem that serious cuts should be made. I'll leave that up to you [double underscored] two [end of double underscored]

I have advertised for an exhibition designer. He will need the exact pieces to determine the layout in Gallery Two. There's the possibiliity that the art component will extend into the sculpture court area. This means designing different kinds of wall systems to separate it from the entry - historical part.

Rockefeller Foundation is high on a different kind of installation -- whatever that will be. Their representative will be here on the 14th and I am suppose to walk her through the space with a verbal description. Our grant is hanging on her site report.

I have also contacted AT&T Foundation for catalog support. That is in a very early stage.

NEA hasn't responded at all. The company in Brazil has given us one quote for handling everything and after checking with Indianapolis Museum I see that it is really out of [text crossed out] line.

--Back to the slides. Although they aren't labelled, I have put numbers on them. Henry will call me with names to fit the numbers.

You might get him to go over them with you if possible, while he is in Maryland.

I think we will be there the week of May 9 for Warren's reunion. Find a few hours for us to talk seriously.

I have to cut this off & get to the airport hoping that you will receive it by Sat. Feel better. One of us has to hang in there.
