Mr. David Driskell (blacked out area)

Dear Mr. Driskell:

It is my understanding that a Joint Executive Committee will be considering the resignation of Jack Eastman as Consultant to the Skowhegan School on the Awards Dinner Celebration. The potential loss of Jack's dedicated endeavors to the promotion of Skowhegan is, I am sure, distressing to all of the distinguished members of the Skowhegan Board. To each one of you, Jack's association with Skowhegan has had an individual and personal significance. Moreover, to everyone fortunate enough to be associated with Skowhegan, Jack has appeared as a force that has endured for the better part of forty years. His persistence, his loyalty and devotion, surely his life's work, has been a majoy contributor to bringing a dream into focus for so many gifted artists, and to bringing the appreciation of their art into so many other's lives.

My own love of art and deire to share that love with others effected my introduction to Jack, and it was Jack's infectious love for, and belief in, Skowhegan that was the persuading factor in my decision to purchase the "Skowhegan 10-Year Retrospective Collection" last fall. Since that time I have had the privilege of becoming acquainted with the great institution that is Skowhegan, its traditions and its unique corporate structure. It is my intent to remain associated with Skowhegan both as an investor and a friend, and it is in this latter capacity that I respectfully ask your indulgence as I consider the occasion to Jack Eastman's resignation.

At this point I must say that, knowing the principles that Skowhegan has established; gratitude, sensitivity and a keen sense of honor, the ideas I am about to share have no doubt been already expressed by many on the Board. Believing this, and knowing that all members of the Board have in their hearts, only the desire to uphold Skowhegan's long-term integrity, as well as the commend one who has contributed so immensely to that reputation, I feel confident in suggesting that an effort is whole-heartedly made to ensure that Jack Eastman's value to Skowhegan is preserved.

In recognition of his past efforts and contribution to the development and success of Skowhegan, I would recommend that Jack Eastman be awarded teh Gertrude Whitney Vanderbilt Award. I am sure that, in looking back over the criteria by which past recipients were appraised, Jack's qualifications are judged on a partiy, with perhaps a slight edge due simply because of his steadfast and sigular love of Skowhegan. I further recommend that Jack be named a Trustee Emeritus of Skowhegan, and that with this appointment goes the commission that he develop a historical biography of The Skowhegan School of Sculture and Painting.

Finally, I recommend that Jack's compensation be maintained at current levels for the services which he would perform as a Trustee Emertius. I believe it is reasonable that a special endowment be established for this purpose and I would be happy, as a friend of the School to discuss this idea.

I think that in looking at a piece of art one can see the artist and his love, his breath, and his life poured into form. So Jack has attempted to shape, color, breathe life into and love Skowhegan. As the future of Skowhegan is passed into new hands, it is my hope that the hands of those who helped create it are not left empty.

I thank you for this opportunity to share my feelings and I rest assured knowing that the future of Skowhegan has been entrusted in such capable and caring persons.

Sincerely,

James L. Lentz [signature] James L. Lentz President

September 18, 1987

Mr. David Driskell (blacked out area)

Dear Mr. Driskell,

Several months ago I sent you a letter describing the booming real estate market in Greater Portland. The market continues to be exceptionally strong and this past summer has been a busy one.

Among other things, I recently put a six unit apartment building on the Eastern Promenade under contract. The list price was $425,000. My aggressive marketing campaingn resulted in a contract at top dollar to a Boston area investor. Through marketing this property I have accumulated a long list of qualifies investors who are actively looking for property, such as yours, in the Munjoy Hill area.

Understandably, it is difficult to keep up with the value of your property in today's everchanging market. To that end I would like to offer you a professional Income Property Analysis at no charge and you will be able to make a sound business decision regarding its sale or the acquisition of more units.

If you are interested in this free competitive market analysis or have any questions concerning your real estate needs, please return the enclosed, stamped, self-addressed postcard or call me at 761-2728. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely, George N. Samaras [signature] GEORGE N. SAMARAS Enc.
